How To Make Exercise Part Of Your Hectic Working Mum Schedule

Guest post by CMSFitness

With hungry mouths to feed, nappies to change, homework to help with and a job to go to, working mums are the epitome of incredibly busy multi-taskers. If you are a busy working mum and are struggling to fit exercise into your hectic routine, you might find the following tips for working mums and exercise helpful.

Working mums are the epitome of incredibly busy multi-taskers. Here's how to add exercise into your schedule.

1. Get the whole family involved

Working mums are often faced with the dilemma – do they, when they’ve finished work for the day and have some alleged ‘free time’, spend it with their children and family or have a bit of ‘me time’, including exercising in some shape or form. Why not eliminate such a dilemma and kill two birds with one stone by getting the whole family involved with exercising?

Pack the swimming costumes and take the whole family on a trip to the swimming baths for some exercise and fun together. Swimming is a fantastic family activity that has multiple benefits to our health, including facilitating weight loss, developing muscle tone, increasing flexibility, improving heart rate and blood flow, amongst many other health and fitness benefits.

Or go for a family walk or a bike ride and enjoy some quality time together whilst getting some great exercise.

Exercise need not be a chore and can be a fun way for all the family to get active and enjoy time in each other’s company.

2. Exercise at lunchtime

Lunchtime exercising is the perfect way for people who are strapped for time, to fit working out into their hectic daily schedule. The concept of 30-minute lunchtime exercising has really taken off in recent years, as more and more people realise the sense of making the most of their lunch hour by working out.

From CEOs to students, fulltime employees to working mums, putting on the trainers and heading to the gym, or pounding the streets at lunchtime is the perfect solution for anyone struggling to find the time to exercise.

3. Getting up early

It’s amazing what you can accomplish my simply getting up an hour earlier than you normally do. This peaceful time when the children and rest of the family are still asleep can be a great time to take advantage of the solitude and get exercising.

Working out at the crack of dawn can leave you energised and invigorated for the rest of the day.

4. Hire a personal fitness instructor

Granted, with a job to go to and children to attend to, you are busy, nobody is disputing that. Having said this, you might be using your busy lifestyle as an excuse not to exercise. This is when hiring a personal fitness instructor can prove to be a priceless move.

Personal fitness instructors come with multiple advantages, including helping motivate busy working mums into doing regular exercise. Furthermore, with somebody else managing your work outs and keep fit routines, you will be more inclined to find the time to exercise and stick to a regular exercise regime.

What’s great about personal fitness trainers is that they are pretty flexible, meaning they can work round your work and family commitments – now you’ve got no excuse not to head to the gym and start pumping some iron!

Lots of short but intensive exercise sessions can be easier to fit in (ie. a quick 10 minute routine by someone like ‘fitness blender’ before work, a quick walk (especially if it involves stairs) at lunchtime to collect something needed from the shops, and then stretches / a workout / a job maybe while the kids have after school sport, can be easier to manage than finding time to do it in one kit. As long as there is enough cardio happening, it can work! (so I hear – I need to keep this going more consistently)

I’ve always enjoyed working out at the beginning of the day but the thought of getting up an hour earlier when my kids are so small and have me top half the night is not so appealing right now. We do try to get out for lots of walks and swimming though. I’m sure I can fit in will change once we get past the baby/toddler stage and sleep becomes more routine 🙂 #coolmumclub

I hired a personal trainer after I had my son and I could only afford two sessions but they were amazing. She told me how to hold my core and build my own rountine and exercise with the buggy #coolmumclub

I so need to start getting back into exercise. Luckily we have a dog which makes me get out for two walks a day, but other than that we do try and get the family involved with bike rides and swimming. It can be hard when you have to work your own regime around a young family x #coolmumclub
