10 Brilliant Morning Hacks for Working Mums

If you’re in a constant state of panic in the mornings, here are some simple morning hacks for working mums – to get you organised and everyone out the door on time.

If you’re in a constant state of panic in the mornings, here are some simple hacks to get you organised and out the door on time.

Lunch box1. If you’re making kids lunches in the morning, stop! Try and pre-make lunches, then it’s just a matter of grab and go in the morning. Have a look at these amazing school lunch hacks for great tips on making school lunches easier.

2. Always, always pack bags the night before. Make this a nightly routine for the kids after dinner. Place all bags by the front door, ready to grab and go in the morning. This includes your bag too. Put a carabiner on your keys and hang them off your handbag so you’re not looking for them in the morning.

3. Lay out clothes the night before – everyone’s, including yours. This includes undies, shoes, socks, jewellery, bags, everything! Do whatever you can to just be able to grab and go in the morning.

4. Make everyone get dressed as the absolute last thing you all do before heading out the door. This should minimise those last minute changes because someone spilt breakfast on their shorts or got toothpaste all over their shirt. If this doesn’t work, get everyone to wear their bathrobes over their clothes and hang them up as you’re walking out the door.

Running5. If you love to start the day with exercise, wear your exercise clothes to bed and place your shoes and water bottle by the front door, then just get up and go.

6. Something you need to do in the morning that you absolutely cannot forget? Send yourself an email or text from your partner’s phone last thing before bed – and don’t open it. Or place a post-it note at eye level on the front door.

7. Lay out breakfast the night before. Bowls, spoons, cereal, fruit, all on the kitchen table. Just add a few items from the fridge in the morning.

8. If it takes 30 minutes of chasing your toddler around the house before you can get them dressed for daycare, try putting them to bed in their daycare clothes, then it’s just a nappy change in the morning and off you go.

9. If you have hair that can handle it and it works for you, shower at night. One less task in the morning.

10. If you can’t live without your coffee, invest in a machine with a timer so your morning cuppa is ready the moment you wake up.

Thanks Mim 🙂 Yep, I’m not a morning person, so prepping everything night before is the only way.

Brilliant, brilliant tips and I couldn’t agree more about doing as much as you can the night before – otherwise the morning is just a nightmare sometimes and lateness and chaos is inevitable! I try and make the lunches while dinner is cooking – chopping everything at the same time etc. Mim x Thanks so much for linking up to #ParentingPicks 🙂

Totally agree. I don’t think I could sleep knowing the kitchen was a mess! Makes mornings so much harder too.

Great list. I am one for ALWAYS washing everything up before bed, or even better straight after dinner. There is nothing worse than getting up in the morning and getting to the kitchen that you got all lazy about the night before.

Thanks Kylie. Great tip! Come to think of it, we were very self-sufficient as kids and made our own lunches, packed our own bags etc. Great life skills to teach kids young.

Thanks Christine 🙂 That’s my number one, pack the night before.

Great tips – I do the lunch and school bag the night before. I love the exercise one!

I’m lucky, I work from home. One of the biggest things that helped here though was making kids responsible for themselves as much as possible. That goes for everything, not just getting ready in the morning. Mine are 6 and 8 now. They have gotten their own breakfast, school clothes and everything for some time.

    Great tips!

These are brilliant! Bookmarking this one.
I already do some of these but not consistently.
Thanks so much for sharing and linking up to the rabbit hole! Xx

    You are so organised!
With six kids my attempts are often unsuccessful because my children can’t help making a mess of things, so for me everything is done on the spot which works for us. 😉

Thanks Claire! Just a few simple steps can turn mornings from a disaster to a success 🙂

Amazing tips! I start back at work in February and will have two little ladies to get off to nursery before work. I love the breakfast tip. So simple but I know it will save me loads of time #parentingpicks

Thanks 🙂 I am definitely not a morning person so it wouldn’t work for me, but I’m sure there are others that leap out of bed for a jog.

Great tips – I do a lot of these already like getting everything ready the night before. Hadn’t considered actually going to bed in my running gear though! #ParentingPicks

Great list of tips here and I particularly like the link to the school lunch hacks. I read a quote on another blog once (Fat Mum Slim, I think), that said “tomorrow starts today”, so true! #parentingpicks
